Although the calendar hasn’t officially welcomed winter yet, the cooler temperatures outside have. At Lombardi Auto Body we understand the frustration and inconvenience of being stranded by your vehicle. Here are a few tips to help get your vehicle ready for winter.
Have your battery checked.
Cooler temperatures reduce the power to start and run your vehicle. Plugging electronic devices into your vehicle’s cigarette lighter adds an extra drain on car batteries. Typically automotive batteries have a life span of 3-5 years.
Check your windshield wipers.
Over time, the rubber on the wiper blades degrades. If you notice chunks missing or streaks on your windshield, it’s time to replace your wiper blades.
Check your tires.
In the winter, you definitely need good tire tread and tire pressure. Checking your tire tread requires a penny. With Lincoln’s head facing downwards, place the penny into several different grooves in one of your tires. If you can see the top of this former president’s head, your tread depth is worn to the point that it could be time to get new tires. Most manufacturers will mark the recommended tire pressure on the inside of the driver’s side door panel. You should always follow this guideline. DO NOT follow what the tires says because this tell you the max pressure.
Check your trunk.
No maintenance is required on your trunk, but you should have a few essentials such as an emergency roadside kit that includes jumper cables, reflective triangles, a flashlight, bungee cords, a blanket, a pair of winter gloves, a pillow, bottled water, snacks, and a small bag of cat litter.
